In2002,
when I was diagnosed with rectal cancer, I decided without hesitation
that I must make my condition public because I was a public figure, then
MP for Kota Melaka and DAP Secretary General. This time I did have
hesitation as I am after all a retiree.
But I finally decided that I should make my condition public because after I completed my 5 years remission in 2007, many cancer patients who saw hope in my recovery actually sought my advice and views on cancer. I felt I must let them know my recurrence.
So in conjunction with visit by DAP leaders today, I had a press conference in my house today to announce my cancer recurrence -- described by my doctors as extremely rare given that 13 years had passed and that recurrence happened at unusual sites.
